When I was a student, I began developing abstract pictures with the goal of creating a personal visual language. My effort was inspired by Kandinsky, Klee, outsider art and the artists involved in Chicago's "Hairy Who" movement. It was also inspired by the comic books and strips I grew up admiring. I set this approach aside when I became focused on my illustration career but in 2007, I participated in a design competition called Vormator that prompted me to revisit this style. Years had gone by so the pictures were inevitably different but I was still happy with the approach. After making the Vormator piece (the first one below), I was inspired to make several more. Over a decade later, I'm working this way again and I'll keep updating this page as I complete new images in the series.
